You are the Expert of You!

You are the Expert of You!

I am not here to tell you what is right for you and what is wrong. You are the best one to decide that. When it comes to health and wellness we all want the same things. We want to be able to be happy, strong and independent. We want moments of love and joy and success. But sometimes it hard to know if what we think we want is truly what we want or if it is just something we think we "should" want.

Over a decade ago, when I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do and what business I wanted to start, I had several different ideas. I knew that these things could be successful but would that be enough. I wanted to do something that made me light up and excited to work on it everyday, something that even if it was really hard I would still feel compelled to push through. That's where our values come in.

Have you ever found yourself feeling lost or unsure about what you truly want in life? It's a common struggle that many people face. The key to finding clarity and direction lies in understanding your values and aligning them with your goals. By doing so, you can create a path for personal success that is both fulfilling and meaningful.

What are values and why are they important?

Values are the guiding principles that shape our behavior and decisions. They are deeply-held beliefs about what is important and meaningful to us. Our values serve as a compass, helping us navigate through life and make choices that align with who we are at our core.

Understanding your values is crucial because they provide a sense of purpose and direction. When your goals are in alignment with your values, you are more likely to experience a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. On the other hand, pursuing goals that are not aligned with your values can lead to feelings of emptiness and dissatisfaction, even if you achieve them.

How to identify your values

Identifying your values requires self-reflection and introspection. Here are a few steps to help you get started:

  1. Reflect on your past experiences: Think about moments in your life when you felt the most alive and fulfilled. What values were being honored in those moments? For example, if you felt a deep sense of joy while helping others, it could indicate that compassion or service is an important value for you.
  2. Consider what brings you joy: Pay attention to the activities or experiences that bring you the most joy and fulfillment. These can provide valuable insights into your values. For instance, if spending time in nature brings you a sense of peace and tranquility, it could indicate that connection with the natural world is a core value.
  3. Examine your priorities: Take a look at how you allocate your time, energy, and resources. What do you prioritize in your life? Your priorities can reveal a lot about your values. If you consistently prioritize spending time with loved ones, it could indicate that relationships or connection is a key value for you.

Aligning your values with your goals

Once you have a clear understanding of your values, it's time to align them with your goals. Here's how:

  1. Define your goals: Identify what you want to achieve in different areas of your life, such as career, relationships, health, and personal growth.
  2. Evaluate your goals: Assess whether your goals are in alignment with your values. Ask yourself if pursuing these goals will honor and uphold your core beliefs.
  3. Make adjustments if needed: If you find that some of your goals are not aligned with your values, consider making adjustments. This could involve reevaluating your goals or setting new ones that are more in line with your values.
  4. Take action: Once you have aligned your goals with your values, it's time to take action. Break down your goals into smaller, actionable steps and create a plan to achieve them.

Remember, the journey towards knowing what you want based on your values is an ongoing process. As you grow and evolve, your values may also change. Regularly reassessing and realigning your goals with your values will help ensure that you are living a life that is true to who you are.

By understanding your values and aligning them with your goals, you can create a life that is not only successful but also deeply fulfilling. So take the time to reflect on your values and start living a life that is in harmony with your true desires.
